Booze burglars strike Belconnen

POLICE are investigating whether three aggravated burglaries in the space of an hour in Belconnen on Sunday morning were committed by the same group of four men.

Police afp copsA group of four men wearing hooded jumpers was captured by a security camera after using a beer keg to smash open the door of the Liquor Legends store on Tillyard Drive in Charnwood, early on Sunday morning.

The group stole alcohol before leaving in the direction of Garrad Court and police found the store smashed open at about 5.10am.

Only ten minutes earlier, police had arrived at the SPAR supermarket in Holt in response to an alarm.

A group was captured on camera breaking in to the store by kicking a glass panel and stealing alcohol.

In the first of three related incidents on Sunday morning, a group of burglars were disturbed trying to break in to the Lucky 7 Handy Mart at Latham at about 4.35am.

Police believe all three incidents are linked.

It has been an unlucky weekend for the Holt SPAR supermarket, which was also robbed by a knife-wielding man on Saturday who threatened staff, demanding cash and cigarettes.

There is no suggestion of a link between the burglaries and the armed robbery.

Witnesses to any of the above crimes can contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or by going to act.crimestoppers.com.au. Information can be provided anonymously.
