Crazy week for Irish pianist

IT’S a crazy week for Irish pianist Elaine Loebenstein, with a  concert, a radio broadcast and a gig at the National Folk Festival.

Tomorrow  she’ll be joining violinist Lauren Davis to perform “Europeans in America,” works by Dvorak, Martinu and Korngold, in the Wesley Music Centre’s popular Lunchtime Live series. Be quick,  these concerts pack out.

Davis received her Bachelor of Music from the Oberlin College Conservatory, her Master of Music from LouisianaStateUniversity, and her PhD in Violin Pedagogy from ANU. She is now the leader of the Riverina Chamber Orchestra, a member of the Canberra Symphony Orchestra and a faculy member of  the Riverina Conservatorium in Wagga Wagga.

Loebenstein, now based in Canberra, is a specialist in  accompaniment, collaboration and improvisation. Recent projects include music for a new DVD celebrating the centenary of the capital, “Imagining Canberra” (for National Film and Sound Archive of Australia) and also for the exhibition “Glorious Days: Australia 1913” at the  (NationalMuseum of Australia).

Then on Easter Day, Loebenstein joins will team up with soprano Joanna Heslop for a concert of some of Russian masters’ music by  Tchaikovsky, Shostakovich, Rimsky-Korsakov and Rachmaninov- with a bit of  Pushkin’s poetry thrown in for good measure.

It’s an ABC Sunday Live broadcast from Llewellyn Hall, ANU School of Music, presented by Marian Arnold, so make sure you are at Llewellyn Hall (William Herbert Place, Canberra), seated by 2:50pm for a broadcast at 3pm
