‘Canberra pride’ on the rise

NINE out of ten Canberrans say they have positive feelings about the national capital and an increased knowledge of its history, according to a new survey. Canberra

The study, conducted by Market Attitude Research Services, shows that pride in Canberra has “increased strongly” in its Centenary year. In a wave of telephone interviews between mid-August and early November, 94 per cent of interviewees said they were proud to extremely proud of the national capital; an increase of last year’s result, where the pride rating was 76 per cent.

Canberrans described their city as progressive, safe, peaceful and responsible and ”a city of achievement”.

However most residents believed the rest of Australia did not share the love for their national capital, with just 27 per cent saying Canberra was viewed positively by other Australians; down from 43 per cent in 2012.
