BUILDING on its own past traditions, Belconnen Arts Centre is marking Dance Week with a program of short dance works and films to be shown in the Dance Studio and beyond.
The lineup of Artists is extraordinary and will include Sue Healey, (director of the now defunct Vis a Vis Dance Company in Canberra) James Batchelor, (ex Quantum Leaper, and recent graduate of the Victorian College of the Arts) Adelina Larsson, Holly Diggle and Sam Vuolo, (3 local independent artists collaborating on an improvised dance with crystal singing-bowls) Gretel Burgess, (a Balinese-Sumatran inspired dance work) Rachael Hilton (from Hilal Dance Australia) Project Beats, (with a classical urban hip hop work), Sevillanas, (with 3 performers from Tomas Dietz’s The Flamenco Centre), Liz Lea (Sunday only – with an excerpt of “Inflight” and African dance Troupe Olabisi.
“The quality and diversity of dance practice in Canberra continues to inspire me,” says Philip Piggin, Community Cultural Inclusion Officer at Belconnen Arts Centre and a dance expert.
