CHILDREN as young as 10 years old can now play paintball in the ACT.
The minimum age to play paintball in the ACT is still 16, as the standard air-powered guns used are classified as firearms.
But a new version of the game called “Miniball” uses spring-powered guns, which have now been approved by the Australian Federal Police for players as young as 10 years of age.
Delta Force Paintball operations manager Seamus Fraser says the new guns are not as as painful to be shot with as the standard type.
“They don’t shoot as far and they don’t shoot as fast,” he explains. “One of the key differences is they’re slightly smaller paintballs, so obviously there’s less energy as they’re flying through the air.”
Young “Miniball” players also wear miniature combat suits, body armour and goggles that protect the head, face and neck.
The first “MiniBall” event will be hosted at the Delta Force paintball field in Tuggeranong on Saturday, May 11.
