POLICE slapped 97 drivers with fines for traffic infringements over the ACT’s long weekend, mainly for speeding, and cautioned another 42 drivers.
Traffic police caught 75 speeding drivers during the three days, with the most serious offender a 19-year-old Belconnen man who was clocked doing double the 60 km/h speed limit down Caswell Drive in Aranda on Saturday.
He was fined $1,811 and lost six demerit points.
Double demerits will apply for speeding and seatbelt offences over this coming Labour Day long weekend, from midnight on Friday, October 4 to midnight Monday, October 7, and an extra demerit point will be added for all other traffic offences during the same period.
