Police book 97 drivers over long weekend

POLICE slapped 97 drivers with fines for traffic infringements over the ACT’s long weekend, mainly for speeding, and cautioned another 42 drivers.

Police-3206-400x266Traffic police caught 75 speeding drivers during the three days, with the most serious offender a 19-year-old Belconnen man who was clocked doing double the 60 km/h speed limit down Caswell Drive in Aranda on Saturday.

He was fined $1,811 and lost six demerit points.

Double demerits will apply for speeding and seatbelt offences over this coming Labour Day long weekend, from midnight on Friday, October 4 to midnight Monday, October 7, and an extra demerit point will be added for all other traffic offences during the same period.
