AUSTRIAN actress Maxi Blaha takes the stage as the pacifist, writer and lecturer Bertha von Suttner in Susanne F. Wolf’s play “Soul of Fire”, coming to The Street, October 2-4. The first woman to win the Nobel Peace Prize in 1906, she is commemorated on the Austrian two-Euro coin. There’s a German language performance on Sunday, October 4, at 4pm. PHOTOACCESS has two new shows, “Antarctica” by nature photographer and former director of the Australian Antarctic Division, Tony Fleming, and its final members’ exhibition for 2015, “PhotoACTIVISM”. Both run until October 18.
ANTARCTICA has also been on the mind of painter Isla Patterson, whose watercolour show “Australia & the Antarctic” opens in the Yarralumla Gallery, Weston Park, 3pm on Sunday, September 27 and runs until October 25. The paintings from come from a trip she took to Antarctica in 2013.
ARGENTINE-Australian pianist Marcela Fiorillo plans to give a lecture at the piano called “Piazzolla & Nuevo Tango” in the ANU’s Manning Clark Theatre 2, 7pm, on October 1 Thursday. It’s a free event.
JO Hollier’s next solo exhibition “Transfer” follows a productive artist’s residency in Thailand. Her works are drawn from the story of Elizabeth Gould, illustrator for her ornithologist husband John Gould. At the Belconnen Arts Centre until Sunday, October 18.
