MICK Gentleman and Shane Rattenbury have opened the new Erindale Bus Station providing increased capacity for buses.
“Erindale is an important group centre, which works as the hub for many of the local suburbs. To reflect this, two bus stops and passenger facilities on each side of Comrie Street have been upgraded to major stop standards to accommodate the high patronage we continue to see,” Mick said.
“The new bus station will provide an improved experience for customers using ACTION services and allow buses to move smoothly through the area, as well as improved amenity within the centre precinct.”
The upgrade includes:
- new concrete bus stop paving and more room for buses to arrive
- comfortable seating, shelter from the elements and new bike racks
- the installation of street lighting to assist passengers who catch the bus in the early or late hours
- landscaping and art works for the streetscape.
“Wall art has brightened up the blank facade which was the original backdrop of the area. The mural was designed and developed by two local artists, Geoff Filmer and Byrd,” Mick said.
“The artwork celebrates the local area and includes famous Australians whose contributions have been recognised in the names of nearby Tuggeranong suburbs, such as Henry Handel Richardson and Sir John Monash.
Shane Rattenbury the upgrade has commenced the shopping centre’s transformation into a major transport hub, better connecting it to other town centres.
“To manage Canberra’s growth, alleviate congestion and protect our liveability, we need to improve our public transport system,” Shane said.
“Infrastructure such as the Erindale Bus Station is key to making Canberra a more accessible and sustainable city and is a key element of the Government’s Public Transport Improvement Plan.
“Erindale operates as a major hub for our Tuggeranong customers. Buses to Woden depart every 12 minutes or better Monday to Friday between 7 am and 7 pm. On weekends, the station offers connections to our high frequency Blue Rapid service for travel across metropolitan Canberra.
“This upgrade to the Erindale Bus Station further demonstrates the unwavering commitment to enhancing customer experience and we hope that these improvements will encourage greater patronage from Tuggeranong and suburbs including Fadden, Chisholm and Isabella Plains,” Mr Rattenbury concluded.
