WARMER weather has kick-started the annual road resealing programme in the Australian Capital Territory.

Assistant Minister to the Deputy Prime Minister Michael McCormack said the road resealing programme was jointly funded by the Australian and ACT governments with $7.9 million committed by the Australian Government from the popular Roads to Recovery programme.

“The Australian Government’s $3.2 billion Roads to Recovery Programme is designed to improve safety, economic and social outcomes through investment in local road upgrades throughout Australia,” Michael said.

“In the ACT, the resealing programme is an important part of the maintenance of Canberra’s roads. It protects and extends the life of a road while also improving safety.”

ACT Minister for Roads and Planning Mick Gentleman said the 2015-16 resealing programme would see approximately 232 lane kilometres of the ACT’s road network resealed.

“The major roads to be resealed include Hindmarsh Drive and Drakeford Drive in Tuggeranong, William Hovell Drive and Ginninderra Drive in Belconnen, the Glenloch Interchange, and Gundaroo Drive, Gungahlin Drive and the Barton Highway in Gungahlin,” Mick said.

“The works will be carried out during off-peak times to minimise the impact on road users however, motorists are asked to be patient when travelling through work sites or use alternative routes if possible.”

The resealing is expected to be finished by April 2016 with works to be undertaken by Downer Australia.

A daily road resealing schedule is available from tams.act.gov.au.
