SPORT and Recreation Services (SRS) is advising the community that the indoor 50 metre pool at Canberra Olympic Pool (COP) in Civic will be closed from 27 April to 30 April 2015 (inclusive) to undergo necessary leak detection works.

The possible temporary closure of the indoor pool was flagged last month by Shane Rattenbury when the government announced that during the normal period of closure of the two outdoor pools (dive and toddler) over winter months, work would commence to investigate substantial leaks at the pool.

“Sport and Recreation Services apologises for any inconvenience caused by the four day closure of the indoor pool, but can confirm that the Canberra Olympic Pool Health Club will remain open during this time. We appreciate the patience of members and pass holders as we work to find the source of the leaks at the COP,” Director of Sport and Recreation Services Jenny Priest said.

“During the temporary closure of the indoor 50m pool free access to the aquatic facilities for COP members and visit pass holders has been arranged at Lakeside Leisure Centre in Tuggeranong and the Canberra International Sports and Aquatic Centre in Belconnen.

“The ACT Government remains committed to ensuring that the COP can continue to operate for as long as it remains viable.”

Once the leak investigation works are complete, the ACT Government will provide the community with an update on whether the leaks can be fixed, and whether the outdoor pools can be reopened.

Applicable COP memberships and visit passes will be extended for the number of days that the indoor 50m pool is closed.
