AS part of Australian Bacon Week (June 21-27) the Australian Bacon Awards have been run and won.
For the second consecutive year, the bacon produced by Canberra’s Pialligo Estate Smokehouse took out top honours. The dry cured and smoked shortcut rashers produced by the Canberra company were described by the judges as beautifully marbled, with a nice smoky aroma and nice balanced taste.
Judges were also impressed by the full rasher bacon produced by Southlands Quality Meats in Mawson, which was awarded first place in both the ACT and National Full Rasher competitions. Meatways in Kambah placed second in the ACT Shortcut and Full Rasher competitions.
