Minister for Transport and City Services Meegan Fitzharris says: “The festive season is a time when more people are travelling to the city to celebrate and the new Night Rider service will allow people to enjoy a night out while also travelling home in comfort and safety.”

The service will run along the Red and Blue Rapid routes throughout December, between the city and major city centres such as, Belconnen, Gungahlin, Woden and Tuggeranong. Buses will be available on Friday and Saturday night up until 2am.

Fitzharris says: “Night Rider now includes a partnership with Uber to help passengers travel the ‘last mile’ home from major bus stations. Patrons will benefit from Uber promotional codes to get $10 off their ride home between 11pm and 2.30am.

“This partnership is an Australian-first and is part of the ACT Government’s plans to use innovation to improve public transport for Canberrans.

“We are also encouraging people to walk, ride, get picked up by friends or grab a taxi for the last leg of their journey home. Transport Canberra has also engaged with the taxi industry to help the suburban link for passengers from the major stations where the Rapid services end.”

The new Night Rider service will run every 20 minutes and on New Year’s Eve, they will run every 10 minutes.

“This year’s service will run on December2, 3, 9, 10, 16, 17, 23 and 31, 2016, with increased services for the ‘Spilt Milk’ festival on Saturday, December 3,” says Fitzharris.
