ANDREW Barr has welcomed the largest number of domestic and international visitors to the capital for the period ending December 2015.
“The latest Tourism Research Australia National Visitor Survey (NVS) for the year ending December 2015 indicates that the ACT’s visitation numbers, visitor nights and expenditure have all increased and exceeded national averages,” Andrew said.
“These are fantastic results, which – combined with the record number of 195,118 international visitors recently released by Tourism Research Australia’s International Visitor Survey – made 2015 Canberra’s most successful year to date for overnight visitation.
“The ACT Government have been working tirelessly to attract more visitors to the capital and these results are validation that our efforts are paying off. We recently released our new global marketing positioning, One Good Thing After Another, which will begin rolling out in April.
“With direct international flights to Singapore and Wellington commencing in September, I look forward to watching our visitor numbers continue to grow.
“The ACT tourism industry is working towards growing the ACT’s visitor expenditure to $2.5 billion by 2020, and these figures show that we are on track to achieving this.”
