THE VENERABLE Queanbeyan Art Society has no complaints about the turbulent weather of recent days – it’s increased sales for the annual Charity Art Show and Sale in City Walk.
On Thursday, so president Barry Cranston report the QAS ‘staff’ were greeted with the sight of overnight rain having poured into the entrance to the exhibition .
But fear not, the show must go on and anyway, there was no risk of damage to paintings because the art show is in the main AnitCom tents.
The result? when Floriade was cancelled, crowd numbers increased at the Art Show and record sales were achieved, which will go to this year’s charity, The Ricky Stuart Foundation.
The weather, Cranston says, forced staff into the tent with the one heater on and lots of fun, with artists Jill Mail and Stuart Marshall painting on site. Mail painted portraits of three members of the QAS staff while Marshall painted a colourful boat scene.
Queanbeyan Art Society, 9th Charity Art Show and Sale, City Walk, Canberra until Monday October 3, 8.30am-4.30pm.
