From the court of King Charles II to the intimate theatres of London, the plan is take audiences on a journey to 17th Century Restoration England with consorts, songs and suites by Purcell, Locke & Dowland.

The four bright young musicians have recently returned to Sydney after further study and engagements as soloists and concertmasters in some of Europe’s leading early music ensembles. Together they strive to recreate how music may have sounded in the seventeenth & eighteenth century by using original baroque instruments and performing in a manner that is close to how composers originally intended but that, at the same time, “gives them the ability to entertain shock, impassion and excite listeners”.

They’ll be working with Australian-born baritone, David Greco. Greco has been based in the Netherlands and Germany for the last 8 years, singing as a soloist throughout Europe’s finest concert halls, including Théâtre des Champs Elysées, Vienna Konzerthaus, London Royal Festival Hall, last year making his debut at the Royal Amsterdam Concertgebouw.

In creating this program they have noted how Restoration England the reopening of theatres in 1660 meant that drama and poetry were restored to their former glory.

The Collective will return to Wesley Music Centre again in November for a German-inspired program centred on Telemann.

“Beauty Thou Scene of Love”, The Muffat Collective at the Wesley Music Centre, 7.30pm, tonight Thursday, August 18 – trybooking.com/208501 or tickets at the door.

Concert of passionate highs and depths of grief

"The ensemble were magnificent. They were wonderfully supportive of the soloists but had an energy, colour, intensity and virtuosity of their own that had the audience mesmerised." ALPHA GREGORY reviews the Australian Haydn Ensemble.
