IT’S A BIG HAPPY BIRTHDAY for “The School Magazine,” celebrating 100 years of publication this year and the first source of serious reading for many Australian children.N
ow the National Centre for Australian Children’s Literature is holding a public exhibition in civic Library, curated by the National Centre for Australian Children’s Literature.
It’s the longest continuously published children’s literary magazine in the world, full of favourite stories, poems, illustrations, music and crosswords.
A highlight of the exhibition is the artwork and manuscript for “My Dog”, first published as a short story in “The School Magazine” and later published as a much-awarded picture book.
As part of the fun, Alan Edwards, editor of the magazine, will reveal highlights over the years in a talk at Civic Library, 4-5 on Friday, October 14.
