SIMON Corbell has announced the appointment of new chief officers for the ACT Ambulance Service and ACT Rural Fire Service.

“Following an extensive recruitment search to fill existing vacancies, Mr Jon Quiggin has been appointed as Chief Officer of the ACT Ambulance Service, while Mr Joe Murphy has been appointed as Chief Officer of ACT Rural Fire Service,” Simon said.

“Mr Quiggin and Mr Murphy would be able to draw upon a wealth of experience and skills to their new positions.

“Mr Quiggin brings a deep insight into this role, as he trained as both a nurse and paramedic, and has previously served as a director at Access Canberra.

“Mr Quiggin has worked in a number of roles within the ESA and I am pleased he will now continue to lead the ACT Ambulance Service moving forward.

“Mr Quiggin has been acting as Chief Officer of the ACT Ambulance Service since 11 January 2016.

“Mr Murphy, who has been acting as Chief Officer of ACT Rural Fire Service since 17 February 2016, brings almost three decades of experience in the emergency services sector, including more than 21 years serving in ACT Fire and Rescue.

“I am delighted that Mr Murphy, who was selected following strong national interest in the role, will now remain in a permanent capacity.

“Previous to this, Mr Murphy was the manager of the ESA Communications Centre. He will lead the ACTRFS with the skills and experience he has gained through having worked as a senior firefighter with ACT Fire and Rescue, an SES volunteer and a manager in a number of roles.”
