MEEGAN Fitzharris says visitors to this weekend’s National Multicultural Festival can take advantage of special ACTION Nightrider services on Friday and Saturday night.

“Following the success of last year’s Nightrider service to the Multicultural Festival, we’ve decided to offer the service on both the Friday and Saturday nights for just $5 cash,” Meegan said.

“Last year’s Saturday service attracted 205 passengers and we hope this year proves similarly successful. It provides festival goers with a safe, reliable and low cost option to get home late at night, while also avoiding the parking hassles often associated with large events.

“There are 10 Nightrider services, each with a choice of two departure times. They will take passengers home to suburbs in central Canberra, Weston Creek, Belconnen, Tuggeranong and Gungahlin.”

A timetable of the Nightrider services is available on ACTION’s website at action.act.gov.au. Nightrider services are cash only and MyWay cards will not be accepted.

Minister Fitzharris also encouraged people attending the Multicultural Festival during the day to avoid the need to park in the city and take public transport.

“On Friday the ACTION Red and Blue Rapid services will take you in to the city from town centres. ACTION will also be running additional 900 Blue Rapid and Route 950 services over the weekend, making it even easier to get there.

“A number of Park & Ride locations are located along these routes, providing another option for festival goers to use public transport for an easier trip into the city,” said Minister Fitzharris.

There will be several road and car park closures for the event. Visit tams.act.gov.au for more information on these closures.
