Police crash a man’s attempt to escape custody

TWO men will face the ACT Magistrates Court this morning (June 13) after reports that three men went to Cash Converters in Woden and attempted to sell a number of tools. 

Two of the men escaped custody, and the 23-year-old man from Turner was caught straight away but one of them, a 3o-year-old Holt man locked himself in a nearby car and demanded the woman in the driver’s seat to drive away.

Officers were forced to smash the car window to take the man into custody.

Earlier, the same man allegedly showed staff at Cash Converters a police badge and identified himself as a police officer.

The car, which the man locked himself in, was involved in a fail to stop along the Tuggeranong Parkway earlier that day. 

The driver, a 46-year-old woman from Melba was arrested and the blue Ford Laser was seized by police. 

The 30-year-old Holt man has been charged with impersonating a territory public official, attempting to obtain financial advantage by deception, unlawful possession of stolen property and escape custody.

The 23-year-old Turner man has been charged with escape custody, attempting to obtain financial advantage by deception and unlawful possession of stolen property.  The man also had a first instance warrant for his arrest.

The third man, a 30-year-old from Holt will be summonsed to appear in the ACT Magistrates Court at a later date.

The 46-year-old Melba woman will be summonsed to appear in the ACT Magistrates Court at a later date in relation to the fail to stop and other traffic offences.
