More shots create ‘fear’ in Canberra

POLICE are investigating an Outlaw Motorcycle Gang (OMCG) related incident after shots were again fired but this time at a home in Waramanga.

Police were notified of shots fired and a car leaving the area at high speed last night (July 11) at around 11.20pm in Badimara Street.

At the property damage was done to a car and the front of the house, which is consistent with the action of a firearm being discharged.

Detective superintendent of criminal investigations Ben Cartwright says OMCG members and their criminal associates are on the radar of Taskforce Nemesis and are the focus of ongoing police investigations.

“This incident isn’t a trivial matter. The activities of OMCG members cause harm and fear in our community and members of the community may inadvertently become caught up in this irresponsible behaviour,” he says.

“This is serious and organised crime and will not be tolerated in the ACT.  The discharge of a firearm in a public area is reckless and dangerous and could have had fatal consequences.”
