Arts / Vikki sings about humour and heartbreak

Vikki Thorn
FORMERLY famous as one third of “The Waifs”, vocalist and blues harpist, Vikki Thorn, is a full-on performer who has sung with Bob Dylan, Levon Helm, Paul Kelly, John Butler and Missy Higgins.

Her new collection of songs portrays the humour and the heartbreak of life just south of Hell’s Backbone in Utah, from which, far away from her original home in the fishing camps of Western Australia, Thorn now draws her inspiration.

Slightly stepping away from the folk format of “The Waifs” to indulge in her passion for old R&B, Thorn is now, for the tour, fronting her own Trio along with Heath Cullen and long term “The Waifs” bassist Ben Franz as she sings of movement, motherhood and “motocross”.

Vikki Thorn with special guests, Courtyard Studio, Canberra Theatre Centre, 8pm, March 6 and 7. Bookings to canberratheatrecentre.com.au or 6275 2700.
