Chrysoula K Purpura coming to the festival from Greece
THE National Folk Festival has Victoria and Tasmania as featured states this year, but there’s plenty more. The festival has an exciting opening concert in the 3000 seat Budawang Pavilion tonight, Thursday, March 29, and runs through Easter to April 2. THE tap-dancing musical, “42nd Street”, sees Peggy Sawyer arrive in the Big Apple from Pennsylvania and win a spot in the chorus-line. ‘Alone’ by Jack Riley
JACK Riley and Artists are performing a new full length contemporary dance dealing with the occult, possession and the potential of one person’s power. Riley recently presented a section within a multiple bill at QL2. The Canberra season will use a mix of professional and youth dancers. “Alone”, at the Canberra Theatre Centre’s Courtyard Studio, March 30 – 31. FOR Maundy Thursday, the Canberra Wayfarers will perform a version of Pergolesi’s “Stabat Mater” featuring Sarah Berger-Alexander, as soprano soloist and AJ America, as alto soloist, accompanied by Emily Leong on the piano with recorder soloist David Cassat. At St Alban’s Anglican Church, Chappell Street, Lyons, 6pm, March 29. Free event, all welcome.

THE Four Winds 2018 Easter Festival, takes place in and near Bermagui over Easter. Free festival concert, 7pm–9pm, Friday, March 30, all welcome. The length of the festival runs from Wednesday, March 28, to Sunday, April 1. All program details and bookings to fourwinds.com.au

MUSICIANS, poets, burlesque performers and more will reveal their innermost yearnings in the first edition of “All the feels”. All acts are original pieces by local performers and artists, and the audience is invited to share in their emotions. ‘Black is the new White’
IN Nakkiah Lui ‘s play, “Black is the New White”, brilliant young lawyer Charlotte is expected to be a female Indigenous Waleed Aly, but it’s Christmas-time when all the home truths come out and worse, she’s in love. The Canberra premiere of David Bradbury’s provocative film, “America and Me” will take place at the ANU Food Co-op, 3 Kingsley Street, Acton, at 7pm on Thursday, March 29. Tim Hollo will be MC, and there will be a Q&A with Bradbury. Bookings to Canberraaam.eventbrite.com.au

THE Apia “Young at Heart” Film Festival returns with a selection of dramas, comedies, documentaries and retrospective titles that cater to film lovers over 60 years of age. One highlight is “Chappaquiddick”, which recounts the tragic car accident and its aftermath that cast its shadow over the political career of Edward Kennedy. There will also be a retrospective on “leading ladies” where audiences can re-live the greats on the big screen through Bette Davis in “All About Eve”, Judy Garland in “A Star Is Born” and Maggie Smith in “The Prime Of Miss Jean Brodie”.
