Share Canberra's trusted news:

ABOUT 500 people have been evacuated from the 14 story AON building on London Circuit so ACT Fire & Rescue can investigate the cause of smoke coming from the plant room.

Three fire pumpers, Bronto ariel appliance, HAZMAT, breathing apparatus support van and a command vehicle are in attendance.

Update: 12pm, April 4.

ACT Fire & Rescue found that the smoke was caused by a malfunctioning lift moto and are conducting atmospheric monitoring to ensure the building is safe to occupy.
