Canberra institutions cancel education programs

National Gallery of Australia… we have made the decision to suspend public programs, education activity and members events.

TWO Canberra institutes have announced immediate cancelations of their education programs, and one will close completely, as a precautionary measure during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The National Film and Sound Archive of Australia (NFSA) and the National Gallery of Australia (NGA) have today said they have cancelled all education programs, with the NFSA saying it will close to the public entirely until April 30.

The NFSA says it is taking this decision to help safeguard the health and safety of visitors and staff, as well as the broader community. But the institution says audiences will find hundreds of hours of content on its collection online.

“We apologise for any inconvenience caused. Those who have purchased tickets to any of our upcoming events, will receive a refund,” says the NFSA.

NGA, on the other hand, has cancelled education programs but will remain open until further notice.
The gallery has to suspended all public programs, education activities and members events for an initial period of four weeks until April 13.
This includes all tours, school visits, art talks and the March Art Weekend including Night Shift, Super Sunday and Sensory Sunday, Art Babe, Art with Friends and Membership events such as Coffee with a Curator and exclusive viewings.
Ticket holders for paid events will be contacted by gallery staff or an event representative.
The gallery says it will continue to review the situation closely and take an informed approach based on the government’s advice and that of expert Australian health authorities.
