A MAN from Ngunnawal has been charged with culpable driving causing death and drug driving following the crash that killed disability advocate Sue Salthouse in July.

The 33-year-old man will face charges at the ACT Magistrates Court on December 18, months after 71-year-old Ms Salthouse was killed in the crash on Commonwealth Avenue Bridge on July 20.

Ms Salthouse was driving a wheelchair accessible motorcycle at the time and was treated by paramedics at the northern end of the bridge. She died in hospital.

Today (November 13), police allege that the offender was on methamphetamine at the time of the crash.

When asked why the investigation took so long, an ACT Policing spokeswoman said: “These sorts of investigations involving motor vehicle collisions can take a while, there are technical briefs that need to be put together.

“We need a considerable amount of expertise in relation to understanding the physics of the collision and other aspects of the collision so it’s really important that we get that right before we charge anyone.”
