Most Stellar facilities are open for exercise

AFTER the chaotic and quick shut down of gyms and fitness centres due to COVID-19, Stellar Canberra has reopened many of its facilities, says its general manager of health and wellness, Ryan Davies.

Now, the Southern Cross Health Club group exercise classes, Anytime Fitness and Stellar Swim have all reopened with some limitations, says Ryan.

But, he says Stellar Canberra was fortunately able to remain partially operational through the crisis, offering one-on-one bootcamps and personal training in the outdoor fitness area.

“It’s so important to maintain that community aspect and sense of connection through seeing people and keeping up with exercise, both for our members and the cohort of staff on JobKeeper,” he says.

“[Then, when restrictions began to ease] we were one of the first pools to reopen and we have our aqua aerobics classes back up and running, with space also allocated for lap swimmers and private swimming classes available.”

Stellar Canberra’s boutique fitness studio, designed for aerobics and dance classes, will reopen on June 30 with restricted numbers and social distancing in place, and the circuit training room has just reopened, too, with classes for seniors available, he says.

“All our staff have a full understanding of the procedures in place to keep everyone safe, and we look forward to welcoming more people back as time goes on,” Ryan says.

The women’s gym and FloatAbove are still closed at this stage.
