ACT Labor will invest $4.75 million for major improvements to the foreshore precinct from Reed Street south to Tuggeranong Town Park, if re-elected next weekend.
The party says upgrades will include a new playground, recreation facilities, better green spaces and accessibility improvements.
“If re-elected, ACT Labor will [also] invest an additional $2 million to clean up Lake Tuggeranong and reduce algae blooms,” says ACT Labor environment spokesperson and candidate for Brindabella Mick Gentleman.
“Guided by expert advice, we will build more gross-pollutant traps and wetlands to clean and filter water as it flows through smaller creeks and waterways into the lake.
“ACT Labor is also re-affirming our commitment to local catchment groups and WaterWatch with $215,000 funding each year, along with $75,000 for the much-loved frog watch program.”
ACT Labor’s plan for Tuggeranong also includes:
- A new walk-in health centre in South Tuggeranong;
- A new ice skating facility in Tuggeranong;
- $100 million investment into the Monaro Highway;
- $10 million for a new, purpose built facility for the Gugan Gulwan Youth Aboriginal Corporation in Wanniassa;
- A southside hydrotherapy pool;
- Local school upgrades;
- New shared paths and cycleways;
- Improved local sporting facilities;
- Upgraded playgrounds, local shopping centres and a new dog park in Lanyon Valley.
