CANBERRA is the last Australian jurisdiction to announce an economic and financial package, and Opposition Leader Alistair Coe says families, workers and businesses are desperately waiting for it.

Mr Coe says the ACT desperately needs financial measures to support families, protect jobs and help businesses keep their doors open.

“As both a state government and council, the ACT is in a very unique position to act [but] the lack of action is creating even more uncertainty,” he says.

“Businesses are already doing it tough, especially after the devastation of the bushfires and hail. We must do all that we can to protect jobs, because we know so many Canberra families depend on them.”

Mr Coe says now is the time for Canberrans to support their local employers and the ACT government has a very important role in demonstrating leadership.

“Now more than ever, local employers and their employees need the government to act,” he says.

Mr Coe says the Canberra Liberals have directly raised with the ACT government real and practical measures that would help reduce pressures on families, help small businesses keep their doors open and staff employed. He says they remain open to working with the ACT government in these trying times.
