Barr: Lockdown won’t end early

AFTER recording nine new covid cases to 8pm last night (August 24), ACT Chief Minister Andrew Barr says the lockdown will not end before September 2.

Regrettably, he said the ACT chief health officer, Dr Kerryn Coleman, will need to review the public health directions for the week ahead.

While the lockdown will not end early, he said some changes are being considered.

“We will announce the settings for next week before the weekend,” he said.

Mr Barr flagged that the ACT will remain in lockdown until there are zero cases being reported and there are no mystery cases.

He also suggested that it will be a “gentle” release from lockdown as the ACT continues to get the vaccine rate up.
