Birthday girl leads police on car chase

POLICE were forced to use “stop-sticks” to stop a woman driving erratically across Canberra in a stolen car, on her birthday.

The stolen Holden Commodore was sighted by police in Braddon about 3.40am this morning (December 13), then spotted travelling south through Canberra suburbs.

Police say the car was being driven “erratically” on the wrong side of the road, not stopping at red lights, and exceeding the speed limit.

At about 4.00am, police deployed “stop-sticks” – which are used to deflate tyres – on Clift Crescent in Richardson to stop the vehicle.

Shortly after, the car which was being driven on its rims, came to a halt after colliding with a traffic sign in Calwell.

The driver, a 30-year old Braddon woman was arrested at the scene and charged with failing to stop, driving without a licence, driving a vehicle without consent, aggravated dangerous driving and not stopping at a red light.

The woman, who turned 30 today, will appear in the ACT Magistrates Court today.
