FORMER journalist turned environmental activist Katrina Willis is heading up the Greens ticket for December’s Queanbeyan-Palerang Regional Council (QPRC) election.
Ms Willis, from Queanbeyan, will lead the group ticket of six candidates, followed by Braidwood local Forbes Gordon.
Both candidates, who are passionate about the environment, think council could be doing more when it comes to waste management, renewable energy, building regulations, community consultation and stronger action on climate change.
“While we know that basics like traffic and waste are important, both the bushfires and covid have shown us that local issues can’t be separated from the bigger picture,” they said.
“The Greens’ plan for Queanbeyan-Palerang makes the link between global challenges and local action.”
It’s Ms Willis’ fourth time vying for a spot on council.
Whilst Mr Gordon, a former farmer and lawyer, served on the Tallaganda Shire Council before it was absorbed into the Palerang Council.
QPRC’s only current serving Green’s councillor Peter Marshall won’t be re-contesting his seat.
