
AN historic church in West Belconnen was broken into and vandalised yesterday afternoon (December 7).
The destruction at St Thomas Aquinas Parish was found by parishioner Bill Fitzpatrick, around 5pm.
Significant damage was done to Church’s altar, as well as a crucifix and a statue of Mary holding Jesus.
TV units were attempted to be removed from walls, windows were smashed and a bookcase had been destroyed.
Police say they received a report of the vandalism at about 5.15pm and attended the scene this morning.
AFP forensic investigators have gathered evidence from the scene and an investigation is currently underway.
