Hotspot cheat caught with drugs in Civic

A 36-year-old Carramar (NSW) man, allegedly in the ACT from a COVID-19 hotspot, has been caught in Civic in possession of drugs.

Police say that about 1.50am this morning (August 8), the man refused to stop his car when directed to do so by police in Bunda Street.

The man drove into Tocumwal Lane before running into Petrie Plaza. After a short pursuit on foot, police arrested him.

When the man was searched at the ACT Watch House he was found to be in possession of a substance the police suspect is cocaine.

Police say the man was in the ACT, in breach of the current Public Health Directions banning people travelling from the Greater Sydney Area.

He will appear in the ACT Magistrates Court tomorrow charged with failing to comply with a direction by the chief medical officer, failing to stop a motor vehicle, drug possession, and unlawful possession of stolen property.
