New covid case linked to childcare centre

ONE of 16 new COVID-19 cases confirmed in the ACT in the past 24 hours is linked to a childcare centre.

The childcare centre linked to one of the new cases is Goodstart Early Learning Turner, and health officials have since listed it as a close contact exposure site from 10.20am-10.40am, and 5pm-5.30pm, Wednesday, August 11.

Deputy chief health officer Vanessa Johnston confirmed this afternoon that the case connected to the centre is not a child.

A number of public transport vehicles, including buses and light rail services, have also been listed as exposure sites in the past 24 hours.

Of the new cases, 11 are linked to existing cases and five are still under investigation, which brings the amount of cases under investigation to nine. The total of active cases in the ACT is 83.

Lyneham Highschool is linked to 23 cases, Fiction nightclub is linked to 13, Gold Creek School is linked to six, Belconnen basketball stadium is linked to four, Downer Community Centre is linked to three and Assembly Bar is linked to two.

The ACT is seeing a lot of young people testing positive for covid, with 43 per cent of cases are aged zero to 17, 46 per cent aged 18 and 44, 10 per cent aged 45 to 64 and 1 per cent aged 65 or older.

There are now 21,330 people in quarantine, and health authorities have conducted nearly 33,000 tests since the lockdown commenced, which is about 8 per cent of the population.

There are currently no covid cases in hospital.
