NSW introduces ‘check-in’ cards

FOLLOWING an outcry from customers struggling to check in to businesses, Service NSW has now introduced “COVID-19 check-in cards” as an alternative method for those without smartphones or those who are uncomfortable using the Service NSW webform.

Users will have to register their contact details online through the Service NSW website and afterwards can print the card at home or have it posted to their address.

The printed card comes with a unique QR code that contains the contact details, which businesses will be able to scan to electronically record the customer’s visit.

However, it will not be mandatory for businesses to accept the cards, as the check-in method is only available for businesses that have a QR compatible device like a smartphone or tablet.

Since the announcement, members of the community have taken to social media in support of the idea.

“I hope Canberra follows suit. A very good idea for those that do not have a smartphone, like my Mother in Canberra,” said one member of the Queanbeyan Community Notice Board on Facebook.

“This is excellent. A lot of older people do not have a smartphone, just a basic one,” said another Facebook user.
