Parents in dark about school lockdown

DETAILS of a school-wide lockdown at Torrens Primary today (December 16) have not been disclosed to parents for “privacy” reasons.

Torrens Primary School.

One student said the siren went off and he had to go underneath his desk but didn’t know why.

“I was confused and a bit scared,” he told his mother.

But parents were none the wiser following an initial email to parents from acting principal Mark Nicholson late this afternoon, who confirmed the school was placed in lockdown, but did not provide any further information out of “respect for the privacy of the student involved”.

Parents were also asked to respect the privacy of the student.

“Your children may want to talk to you about what they saw, what they heard, and how they are feeling. We will be following up with students who may have been impacted to support them,” he wrote.

A subsequent email from the acting principal says the incident involved the behaviour of a student and was not covid related.

“All students were safe. As a school we need to inform you because all students were impacted as they had to leave the playground to enter the lockdown. The lockdown ended after approximately 15 minutes,” the principal says.
