Pregnant women encouraged to get vaccinated

PREGNANT women in the ACT are being encouraged to discuss getting vaccinated to protect themselves from covid with their care team.

As pregnant women can be vulnerable, clinical director of obstetrics and gynaecology at Canberra Hospital Dr Natalie De Cure suggested the importance of getting vaccinated to protect mums and their babies from COVID-19.

She said the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists, and the Australian College of Midwives strongly advocate for vaccination in women at any stage of pregnancy.

“The Pfizer vaccination is not a live vaccine, therefore there is no risk of transmission to your baby,” she said.

“I really strongly encourage you that if you have any doubts to have a discussion with your care team.”
