A FIRE in a shop in Rae Street, Belconnen, has been contained tonight (December 27).
Surrounding buildings were evacuated as a precaution while crews worked to slow the spread of fire.
Firefighters are still working to extinguished two small areas of fire. Emergency Services says that due to the instability of the building, crews will not be entering the structure.
The cause of the fire is not yet yet known. The scene will shortly be handed to ACT policing who will determine the cause of the fire.
Roads remain closed in the area.
