Woman on walker knocked over in attempted robbery

POLICE are searching for a man who knocked over a 60-year-old woman on a walker and attempted to steal her bag last Friday (December 3).

About 4.10pm the woman was crossing Benjamin Way outside Belconnen Westfield when a young man exited a nearby vehicle and attempted to snatch her bag.

The woman fell over and was dragged a short distance before members of the public intervened. The man returned to the vehicle and left the scene empty handed.

Police are urging anyone who witnessed the incident, including anyone who saw a vehicle driving quickly on Benjamin Way, at about 4.10pm on Friday, or anyone who may have dash-cam footage of the area at the time to come forward.

Anyone with information that can assist police is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333000, or via the Crime Stoppers ACT website, quoting reference number 6979798 Information can be provided anonymously.
