Airport threatens legal action over mask mandate

CANBERRA Airport will threaten legal action against the ACT government if action is not taken to scrap the mandate that passengers must wear masks inside the terminal.

Stephen Byron Canberra Airport CEO.

According to Canberra Airport chief executive Stephen Byron the “unnecessary” mandate was not only discriminatory but in breach of the ACT human rights act.

Mr Byron has led calls by airports for the mask mandate to be eased since the requirement was relaxed in other parts of the community.

Masks remain compulsory at both Sydney and Melbourne airports and on flights within Australia.

Mr Byron said he is not seeking a relaxation of the mask mandate inside the aircraft, just within airport buildings.

Should. Ever have been a mandate in the first place. If somebody is so inclined to wear one then by all means…

Completely agree @Luke. It’s gone too far.

Further, I think we should once again allow smoking again in public spaces including public transport. I hate having to go outside in the cold for a smoke. As for seatbelts and bike helmets… don’t get me started!
