THE zoo has a new arrival, a healthy baby male giraffe named Themba meaning “faith”.
Themba who was born just over a month ago, is growing well and has started venturing out into her enclosure, according to the National Zoo & Aquarium.
Born to mum Mzungu, and dad Shaba, who call the Canberra zoo home, Themba is also a younger sibling for Kebibi, Nzuri and Khamisi.
The giraffe is the world’s tallest living land mammal – capable of growing in excess of 5 metres.
The gestation period for a giraffe averages 15 months.
