Road death: Man crashes into stormwater drain

A MAN is dead following a single-vehicle collision near the northern intersection of Drakeford Drive and Athllon Drive, Wanniassa, last night (January 26). His is the second death on ACT roads this year.

At about 8pm, police received reports that a car being driven north on Drakeford Drive had gone on to the median strip for more than 100 metres before returning to the road, crossing the northbound carriageway and crashing into a stormwater drain.

Despite the efforts of passers-by, police officers and emergency services, the man died at the scene.

Police will prepare a report for the coroner.

Anyone with information or dash-cam footage from around the time of the incident is urged to call 1800 333000, or via the Crime Stoppers ACT website
