New dog parks to open next year

PLAYGROUNDS in Kaleen and Lyons are set to receive upgrades next year, along with the introduction of two new dog parks in Lanyon and Franklin.

These facilities come under the ACT Government’s suburban infrastructure program, and have been announced today (September 28) for community consultation.

The Lanyon dog park will be located on the corner of Jim Pike Avenue and Woodcock Drive in Gordon, and will include native trees, agility areas, grassy spaces and picnic shelter, drinking fountains and seating options.

The Franklin dog park will be located on the corner of Nullarbor Avenue and Oodgeroo Avenue, and will host the same facilities as the Lanyon park, but with deciduous trees and a gravel area for coffee vans.

The Lyons playground will be relocated from Lyons Oval to the other side of the playing fields, closer to Launceston Street, with the Kaleen upgrades occurring on the playground at Wakool Circuit.

The playground upgrades are set to include more fencing and shaded spaces, a picnic shelter, bike racks and mixed use courts.
