Record covid hospital numbers as ACT records 60th death

ACT Health has today (May 19) recorded 82 people hospitalised with COVID-19, the territory’s highest since the beginning of the pandemic.

A woman in her 70s has also died with covid, marking the 60th death in Canberra.

Of those in hospital, four are in intensive care and two are on ventilators.

The ACT recorded 997 new cases of the virus today, 504 via PCR tests and 493 via RATs.

There are now 6074 active cases in Canberra.

Some elective surgery in the ACT has had to be postponed as Health Services face staff shortages in part due to covid.

Vaccination rates remain unchanged from yesterday. 97.2 per cent of Canberrans aged five and over have had two doses.
