POLICE are warning residents to tighten up their security following thefts in Googong and Captains Flat.

Police have charged a 31-year-old Michelago man for allegedly breaking into a shed in Googong earlier this year and stealing chainsaws, a hedge trimmer and other tools.

The man has also been charged with the alleged theft of an All-Terrain Vehicle (ATV) and trailer from a property at Captains Flat in May.

The ATV was later found by police on a property near Walgett.

Southern Zone Rural Crime Coordinator Detective Sergeant Mick Calleja has urged residents to protect their equipment.

“It is a timely reminder for landholders and other persons involved in agricultural industry to record serial numbers of farm machinery and equipment,” he said.

“This will ensure any stolen property that is recovered by police, will be returned to the rightful owner.”

The man will front Queanbeyan Local Court in November.
