Speedsters claim half of weekend driving tickets

ALMOST half of the traffic infringement notices handed out by police over the October long weekend were for speeding.

Police say more than 40 drivers copped speeding fines during the four day double demerit period including one driver caught travelling more than 45km/h over the speed limit.

Another two drivers were caught exceeding the speed limit by between 30km/h and 45km/h.

Of the 85 traffic infringement notices issued over the weekend, 41 were for speeding, 15 were for people driving unregistered cars, and four were for unlicensed drivers.

Police also conducted 1212 random breath tests, with five drivers blowing over the legal limit and two recording positive drug results.
