Suspect reverses car into police

POLICE officers have had a narrow escape from injury after an erratic driver reversed his car at police in Ainslie over the weekend.

Police were attempting to arrest a 30-year-old man during a patrol by Operation Toric officers in Ainslie on Friday (October 14) when he reversed erratically and drove away, narrowly missing the officers.

Police didn’t pursue the dangerous driver out of concern for public safety but the driver was later seen by police driving recklessly, overtaking vehicles and cutting into traffic.

With the help of NSW police the man was arrested at a home in Jerrabomberra later that evening.

He was extradited from NSW and transported to the Alexander Maconochie Centre yesterday (October 15) and will face court today (October 16) on charges of failing to stop a motor vehicle and dangerous driving.

Earlier this year a warrant was issued for the man’s arrest after he failed to comply with bail conditions in relation to previous driving offences.
