Taylor man faces charges of ‘furious’ driving

A 27-year old Taylor man is alleged to have accelerated heavily towards a police vehicle before colliding with a tree and then trying to escape by foot.

Police say that at about 11.20pm last night (October 2), officers attempted to stop a grey Ford Falcon in the suburb of Ngunnawal.

After police activated their warning lights, it is alleged the driver of the Falcon drove up a gutter and on to a nature strip to evade police.

Police say the driver lost traction of his vehicle, before spinning 180 degrees before accelerating  heavily towards a police vehicle before losing control of his car and colliding with a tree. He then tried to escape on foot before being caught 50 metres away.

The man was then arrested where he allegedly told police he had used methamphetamine about three hours before the incident.

Further investigations revealed the man was driving his father’s vehicle without his consent.

He faces six charges, including aggravated furious/reckless driving, failing to stop for a motor vehicle, driving while disqualified, breaching good behaviour obligations, taking a motor vehicle without consent and driving with a prescribed drug.
