Alleged hammer attack by runaway driver

THE driver of the white Toyota Landcruiser cleared off after allegedly ramming the back of a parked car in a Majura Park car park on Friday evening.

Police say a 31-year-old Banks man left the location and failed to provide details with the driver of the damaged Ford Falcon.

At about 1.40am on Saturday, a group of people were sitting in a Kingston front yard when three men approached them, including the 31-year-old Banks man, who is alleged to have struck one of the people in the face and back of the head with the hammer and repeatedly threatened them.

Police were called and found the men in the white Toyota Landcruiser in Kingston.

The 31-year-old was breath tested at the scene, returning a breath analysis reading of 0.144.

He has been charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm, reckless threat to kill a person, damage property and driving-related charges. Police say further charges may be laid.
