LIBERAL leader Elizabeth Lee says there are still questions for Shane Rattenbury, despite the resignation of Greens MLA Johnathan Davis from the Assembly and the party.

Davis has resigned following misconduct claims last week that relate to an alleged sexual relationship with a 17-year-old male.

The Canberra Liberals are calling for an independent review into how the issue was handled by Rattenbury, the leader of the ACT Greens, and the ACT Greens Party.

On Sunday night, Rattenbury issued a statement saying: “The ACT Greens take the conduct of our MLAs seriously and believe Canberrans should rightly expect the highest standards of behaviour, integrity and accountability from our representatives and members in office.”

In the ACT, the age of consent is 16; engaging in sexual intercourse with a 17-year-old is not illegal.

Lee said: “This is an incredibly distressing situation for all those involved, and the broader Canberra community.

“What is also concerning are reports that those involved have had to go public due to inaction by the ACT Greens when these serious allegations were first raised.

“There are still significant concerns regarding how this has been handled by the ACT Greens and there are still a number of questions that need to be answered.”

They are:

  • What are the specific allegations that were raised with the Leader of the ACT Greens on Monday, November 6?
  • Did these allegations include potential criminal activity?
  • If these allegations included potential criminal activity, why did the leader of the ACT Greens not take this to the police immediately?
  • Why did it take a media enquiry on the evening of Thursday, November 9, for the ACT Greens to finally act on these allegations that were reported to the leader of the ACT Greens four days earlier?
  • Has the leader of the ACT Greens or the ACT Greens party received any previous complaints or allegations relating to the conduct of Mr Davis?
